The center of Ecotourism in these salt-water estuaries called the "Lagamar" (located along the inland waterways of Iguape-Cananéia-Paranaguá), was recognized as the best Ecotourism centers of the World in 1999 by the magazine Condé Nast Traveler. This pristine area shelters the largest portion of continuous forest as a remainder of the Atlantic Rain Forest in Brazil, classified as an area of extreme importance with a priority for conservation, maintained for the use and participation for the benefits of biodiversity by the Brazilian Ministry for the Environment.
